MU-JHU Care Ltd, in partnership with Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS), is offering short training courses for Ugandan researchers and teams engaged in HIV clinical trials.
The goal is to strengthen local multidisciplinary capacity to design and conduct HIV trials, especially among;
- pregnant and lactating women,
- children,
- adolescents,
- young women and their partners.
It is supported by the Fogarty International Center of the US National Institute of Health.
Course objectives
- Provide in-depth training on HIV related clinical trials among pregnant and lactating women, children, adolescents, young women and their partners
- To increase clinical research capacity for researchers at Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) and research organizations in Uganda
Course outline
Short-term training includes:
- A 1-week in-person core HIV clinical trial workshop at MU-JHU.
- Optional follow-up supplementary modules providing deeper, specialized training on critical aspects of clinical trials in the population above.
Target audience
- Researchers from MU-JHU, MakCHS, Ministry of Health (MoH) and other research organizations in Uganda.
- These include but not limited to investigators, doctors, nurses, midwives, laboratory personnel, pharmacists, counsellors, regulatory staff, data management staff, quality assurance and quality control personnel.
- PhD, MMED and MSc trainees supported by the MU-JHU training program.
Benefits
- A certificate of attendance will be given to trainees who complete the 1-week workshop and at least 1 supplementary module.
- Trainees who complete the one-week workshop and at-least 1 supplementary module, may apply for the mid-term training.
- Graduates of the core course will be added to a listserv for future training opportunities.
- No course fee will be charged
- Cover letter expressing interest in the program.
- Personal statement (including the anticipated benefit to the trainee and their institution).
The initial training will run from 10-14 November 2025.
