Master of Medicine (MMED) Scholarships

Background

MU-JHU Care Ltd in partnership with Johns Hopkins University is pleased to announce a call for applications for scholarships for Master of Medicine in the disciplines of Paediatrics and Child Health or Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Makerere University.

The program aims to strengthen local multidisciplinary, scientific capacity for the design and conduct of HIV related research among;

  • pregnant and lactating women,
  • children,
  • adolescents,
  • young women and their partners.

It is supported by the Fogarty International Center of the US National Institute of Health.

Eligibility

Applicants should be:

  • Ugandan
  • Enrolled in a relevant Master of Medicine program at Makerere University (Mak).
  • In their second or third year and ready to start their research.
  • Interested in training and conduct of HIV related research in pregnant or lactating women, children, adolescents or young women and their partners and a commitment to developing a career and leadership in this field.
  • Have a research topic relevant to this program and approved by the relevant academic department.
  • Have a letter of recommendation from a faculty member or head of department.
  • Commitment to publish research conducted under this training in a peer reviewed Journal.

Application Process

  • Cover letter (maximum 1 page) expressing interest in the program, addressed to the Program Director
  • Personal statement (should address above eligibility criteria)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Research proposal synopsis related to HIV in the population of interest (maximum 3 pages)
  • Recommendation letter from at least one faculty member sent separately to mujhu@mujhu.org, before the application deadline.
