On August 28th 2023 MU-JHU staff participated in the newest Rotary Cancer Run, at Kololo Airstrip in Kampala, to improve Ugandans’ health. Over 100 staff members participated in the run that had 5km, 10km and 21km distance.
The #RotaryCancerRun23 had a large fundraising goal of about 1.5 billion shillings, which they successful raised. This will make a substantial contribution to the building of a radiotherapy unit at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored and participated from throughout the country. We have made considerable progress in the fight against cancer in Uganda but we must continue the struggle.
Fighting cancer in Uganda, as in many other developing nations, necessitates a multifaceted strategy that requires research, improved healthcare, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment, community education and public awareness.
