Earlier this year, the MU-JHU D3 Study was represented at the PENTA Investigators’ Meeting (PIM) 2026 Congress, held from 6th–8th May 2026 at Zagarella Domina Sicily in Santa Flavia, Palermo, Italy.

The international congress brought together child infectious disease specialists, researchers, clinicians, and health professionals from around the world for scientific exchange and professional learning. The programme featured plenary sessions, workshops, and scientific presentations highlighting developments in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of infectious diseases affecting children.

MU-JHU was represented by the D3 Study leads, Prof. Philippa Musoke and Dr. Grace Miriam Ahimbisibwe, who participated in the congress as part of the study’s scientific and professional engagement with the international pediatric infectious diseases research community.

D3 Co-Principal Investigator and Study Coordinator Dr. Ahimbisibwe had this to say;

“The PIM is a truly remarkable meeting bringing together researchers and policy makers in the pediatric infectious diseases field. Secondly the D3 study is an important study that provides an ART option for children and adolescents living with HIV who are virologically suppressed with no history of treatment failure. We hope that it will inform pediatric and adolescent HIV treatment guidelines globally.”

Their participation provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge, engage with emerging research, and strengthen professional connections relevant to the D3 Study and child health research.

About the D3 Study
D3/Penta 21 trial is a medical study testing a two-drug HIV treatment for children, proving that dolutegravir/lamivudine (DTG/3TC) works just as well as standard three-drug regimens.
