On October 21–22, 2025, MU-JHU staff and Community Advisory Board (CAB) members convened at Hotel Africana for the 12th Annual National Research Ethics Conference (ANREC), the first since 2019.

The conference gathered over 600 delegates from Uganda and beyond to discuss emerging priorities in research ethics, community engagement, and innovations shaping the future of health research.

MU-JHU was represented by staff and CAB members from Mityana and Kampala. During the opening keynote, Dr. Janestic Twikirize (Makerere University) highlighted MU-JHU’s Community Engagement webpage as a leading example of strong community involvement in research.

On Day 2, Dr. Flavia Matovu Kiweewa delivered a keynote address, Dr. Clemensia Nakabiito presented insightful work, and Prof. Philippa Musoke, MU-JHU Executive Director, chaired a session on topics including clinical trial insurance and research-related legal considerations.

We extend our appreciation to all MU-JHU representatives for advancing ethical research and strengthening community partnerships at this year’s conference.

Special thanks to UNCST for hosting an excellent event—MU-JHU looks forward to returning in 2026.
