The INTEREST Conference 2026, the 20th edition of the annual meeting held from 12–15 May in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, brought together global experts to advance knowledge and collaboration in HIV treatment and prevention. A delegation from MU-JHU Care Ltd participated, contributing expertise and engaging in scientific exchange. The team comprised Denis Akakimpa, Director of Strategic Planning and Partnerships; Juliane Etima, Director of Psychosocial Support; Dr. Flavia Matovu Kiweewa, Director of Research; and Dr. Sheila Bamwenyana, Co-Principal Investigator.

  • Integration vs. Equity: Implications of HIV Service integration for Ugandan Adolescents and Youth – Juliane Etima
  • From Trials to Real-World Impact: Ethical and Operational Lessons for Scaling Up Long-Acting Injectable PrEP in Africa – Dr. Sheila Bamwenyana

Dr. Bamwenyana, whose poster shared implementation experiences and their implications for strengthening public health impact, noted that the conference provided a valuable platform to showcase MU-JHU’s work, receive peer feedback, and build meaningful collaborations beyond the institution.

Overall, the meeting provided opportunities for learning, networking, and exploring future partnerships to strengthen HIV prevention efforts across Africa.
