MU-JHU is proud to be part of INTEREST 2025, Africa’s leading HIV science conference, happening from May 13–16 in Windhoek, Namibia. Held under the theme “Advancing HIV Research & Treatment in Africa,” the event brings together scientists, policy makers, and health leaders to share innovations and shape the future of HIV response on the continent.
Four MU-JHU researchers are representing Uganda and contributing to critical conversations around HIV prevention, care, and treatment:
-
Dr. Sheila Bamweyana is presenting on optimizing cord blood collection—highlighting strategies and outcomes from the HPTN084 Pregnancy Infant Substudy at a non-hospital-based research site.
-
Dr. Catherine Nakaye is sharing insights on the feasibility and acceptability of training community drug shop staff to deliver oral PrEP refills to female sex workers in Kampala.
-
Dr. Ronnie Kasirye is presenting data on infections among older Ugandans living with HIV in routine care settings.
Their work reflects MU-JHU’s commitment to community-driven, evidence-based solutions that respond to real-world needs.
The INTEREST Conference stands out for its focus on African-led research, offering mentorship and scholarships for early-career scientists, and creating space for collaboration across borders and disciplines.
MU-JHU’s active role in this year’s conference reinforces our mission to contribute meaningful, locally grounded research to the global HIV response.
