COVID-19 Update: Staff Vaccination

June 2, 2021

In an effort to better protect staff during this COVID-19 pandemic, management organised an onsite vaccination exercise for staff that took place on Friday 28th May 2021. This followed a virtual sensitisation meeting for staff organised by the MU-JHU COVID-19 clinical advisory committee in which Dr. Deo Wabwire updated staff on the current state of COVID- 19 in Uganda and the preventive measures in place at MU-JHU. He explained how the AstraZeneca vaccine works and the importance of vaccination for individuals working in health facilities. During the meeting, staff were encouraged and called upon to register for COVID-19 vaccination. Staff registered with their supervisors and the final lists were submitted to the Human Resource office. The vaccination exercise was conducted in the MU-JHU 2 Conference room by staff of Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital.
Sr. Rose Ssematimba, a Public Health Nurse along with three other representatives educated staff on the consent process by explaining the participant form and vaccine booklet before beginning the vaccination exercise. All staff who received their 2nd jab that day had their booklets stamped and signed at the Ministry of Health.
