MU-JHU was proud to participate in the Triple Elimination Conference Africa 2025, held at the Speke Resort & Conference Centre Munyonyo in Kampala, Uganda. MU-JHU was represented by our Executive Director Prof. Philippa Musoke, Research Director Dr. Flavia Matovu Kiweewa, and Biostatistician Robert Serunjogi.
Prof. Musoke opened MU-JHU’s contributions with a session on the current state of HIV in Africa. On 22 July 2025, Bobby Serunjogi presented findings on the “Risk of adverse birth outcomes and birth defects among women living with HIV on antiretroviral therapy and HIV-negative women in Uganda, 2015–2021.” Dr. Flavia Matovu Kiweewa also featured as a speaker during the conference.
During the session on Integrating HIV, Hepatitis B, and Syphilis Control Programs, Robert’s presentation was followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Patricia Mandima (Zimbabwe), Juliette-Laure Ndzie Ondigui (Cameroon), and Namakau Nyambe (Zambia), moderated by Kim Gustavsen (UNAIDS).
“I was honored to present at the inaugural Triple Elimination Conference on HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B in Africa. Sharing our birth defects surveillance findings from Uganda sparked meaningful dialogue on ART safety in pregnancy. Our data is helping raise awareness, guide safe treatment, and strengthen collaboration—essential to the 2030 elimination goal.”
